I actually use them for work where I often stand for more than 8 hours. These MT580s run narrow compared to the New Balance 993s. If the D width in the 993 is snug you may need to get a wider width in the MT580. For me the 993s in a D width are a bit roomy and the 580s fit perfectly; although too snug for me to be able to add an arch insert. The 580s have noticeably less cushioning than the 993s, but because 580s have more support I find my feet are not as tired when I'm on my feet for more than 5 hours. I don't run in either, so I can't comment on how a shorter workout would differ between the two models. A great shoe with excellent cushioning. When I was in college I used to sell the previous models in this series more to older folks who were experiencing pain in their knees or other joints, than to runners. These 'older' folks wore them as their everyday or casual shoes for their amazing cushioning and more subdued colors/style. Selling a pair of these virtually guaranteed making a repeat customer; some 6 months or year later they would come back holding their old pair and say, "I'd like another pair exactly like these." Now fast forward some 15 years of hard miles and I am one of these 'older' folks. The model changes yearly, and has seen many technological improvements over the years, but you can depend on fit staying true year after year. I never thought I'd like a pair of shoes better than my 992s, but I was wrong! There are so many improvements on the 993 that I like them even better. First of all, they're just a little smaller overall. I still wear them a half size smaller than my regular size, but they fit better than the 992, which was just a tad big. The 993 has more tread and is contoured on the side and heel a little more. They've also changed the fabric part, which was my biggest gripe with the 992, which tended to wear through at the toe. The 993 seems to have a tougher fabric, so we'll see. All in all, even more comfortable than the 992, smaller footprint, and hopefully tougher wear. I have the navy blue and they're great with jeans. A great little shoe for my active guy. We got the grey and they go with everything. Ordered a half size larger because New Balance always seem to run short, even in adult sizes. This is our third pair of these shoes! |
