It's the only pair he ever grabs for school and play. Good looking, too! I have run in many brands of running shoes, and the 768 and 850 are two of the best in which I've ever walk/run. There is an excellent volume of cushioning material and near perfect support for this early 60s (age) walker/runner. From a support/cushioning standpoint, I purchased a several pairs of Dr. Scholl's Tri Comfort inserts (WalMart has the best price); this insert provides an excellent alternative to the stock insert (of course, I remove the stock insert before inserting the Dr. Scholl). It adds additional cushioning in the heel and under the arch; the insert ends at the ball of the foot, which leaves more toe room than with the standard insert. The 850's stock insert is fine, but I walk/run so much that I like changing the feel of my shoes. As an alternative shoe, I use the 768, however, the 850 is my shoe of choice. The overview--this is a great shoe and lighter than its predecessor the 859. NB has a winner for support and cushioning and it runs true to size. I also purchased a pair for a female family member, and it remedied her plantar fasciitis. You have got to love this shoe! These are the best New Balance shoes I have ever had! I am a 'power walker' who has been wearing NB shoes for years. I had read about this specific style in an article about exercise, and had wanted to find a pair. They are fantastic! I have over the years bought many different NB styles from various sources: Fleet Feet (expensive), Big 5 (cheap), and even Macy's (on sale). The ironic thing is, I had just tried purchasing a different style (that was way on sale probably because they were so lousy) from another online store that doesn't offer free return shipping, and of course ended up having to return them. These however, were perfect, and I could have returned them for free, but didn't need to! What I hadn't realized with NB shoes before, is that there is a difference in the toe box size between styles. I have an average foot size, but found that I need the wider toe box that this particular style offers. I have also found with NB that I need a half size bigger than my normal shoe size. The one I had to return had the narrower box. |
